Lazy and Inconsiderate
I ran out of toilet paper at the end of last week and was planning on bringing back some rolls on yesterday. I didn't feel the need to replenish it right then and there b/c I was on my way out and wouldn't come back for 4 days. I guess my aptmate (she has her own private bathroom, but everyone uses mine since it's disconnected from my room) had her group members over during one of those days...b/c when I came back, I saw an opened roll lying on the counter with some torn up sheets next to you. I think my aptmate gave her the roll since there wasn't any left...but whoever was the culprit didn't even bother to put the TP on the roll and just left it on the counter! How lazy and inconsiderate. Her group members collectively use my bathroom more than I do probably since I'm rarely home and they are here quite often doing their group project. The least they could do is put my damn TP on the roll. >_<

Shoes: Set for Summer
Yay new shoes! Aren't they purty? =) So far, I have red, pink, dark purple, black, and herringbone-ish flats. Eventually I want to add blue, green, orange, yellow, grey, and brown to my collection. While high heels are nice...they aren't very practical for my current lifestyle. Anyways, now my feet are set for this summer!
Which do you like better? I'm more partial to the pair on the left. The ones on the right are more comfortable though. I learned that I am a 7.25...at least for the DV pair. 7 was too tight...7.5 is a tad bit too loose. At least both of my feet are the same size...I think!

Cheap vs. Frugal Roommates
Someone I know (person A) asked me to write this post because he doesn't have a blog...but wanted to vent anyway about person B. So what I'm about to write in no way reflects the roommate experiences that I've had. I've been pretty lucky to live with non-stingy people. All my roomies have been fantastic...C, N, R, Y, and K. My future roommate J is shaping up to be pretty cool too. :P
Okay, so let's discuss cheap vs. frugal roommates. Some people have mistaken their being cheap as merely having a frugal lifestyle. But I think there's a clear line between the two...
Person A has been living with person B for over 7 years. When A bought a house, he graciously gave B a friend discount of $750 to rent the other room...when he could have easily charged $1000. Person B tried to negotiate and lower the rent even more! Cheap or frugal? CHEAP.
Person B will use up the laundry detergent until there's about 1/4 cup left...not enough for a full load. And he will leave the box there. But because A is the next person to do laundry, he thinks there's enough detergent left...only to realize there's not enough for a full load. So A has to go out and buy more detergent...which B will get to use anyway. Cheap or frugal? CHEAP.
When person B got keys to his new place and was slowly moving out, instead of buying TP for his own place, he opened up a new package #1 purchased by A to take one roll. Person A then decided to hide the opened TP package #1 so he wouldn't steal it all, but left unopened package #2 in the cabinet. Later when B moved out for good, he again ripped packaged #2 a new one and took another roll! Cheap or frugal? CHEAP!
Person B has an obsession with energy saving fluorescent light bulbs. When A bought the house, it came regular light bulbs. So A and B decided to switch them out when they moved in. B took the initiative to buy the light bulbs and switch them. Cheap or frugal? Frugal, right! Except when B was moving out (this is a year later now), he switched out the USED light bulbs in various places around the house where he didn't think A would notice and put the other light bulbs in its places. But A notices everything. It's his house, after all. B even went as far as to try to switch out the light bulb IN THE GARAGE...except A came home early and saw him with a ladder...and B pretended he was putting in a new light bulb. Cheap or frugal? CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!
Some people are CHEAP with their time too! When Person A eats a yogurt or something and leaves just the spoon or a cup in the morning, B will only wash ALL his dishes...but not A's single lone spoon or cup. Homeboy will leave A's one utensil, cup, or dish in the sink unwashed. B's gf is not very communal either. When she does her laundry, she will not include the dish towels with her clothes. Why? She says they will dirty her clothes. Uh, hello! Aren't your clothes dirty? Isn't that the whole point of doing laundry? Not to mention B and B's gf rarely ever takes out the trash/recycling. They will stuff it to the point where the next person (not them) simply can't stand it and has to take out the trash/recycling. In the rare instance that B does take out the trash? He "forgets" to line it with a new garbage bag.
Keep in mind, Person B is not poor. He makes at least 6 figures/year. He thinks he's saving money....by being "frugal." Person A is not poor either...but this is not all about money, this is about B needing to be more communal and not wasting A's damn time. Seriously, who in hell STEALS used light bulbs? A would have gladly given B the money to buy his own damn light bulbs. Instead, A has to now drive to the store, pick up new light bulbs, drag the ladder out, and replace them. Time = Money! Since A knew that B was moving out...it didn't seem worth it to be confrontational.
End rant. Hehe, happy now, Person A? Hopefully your new roommate will be more communal and less cheap-o! =)

Random Weekend Breakfast
I love colorful and fruity food! We try to incorporate some kind of fruit in our meals...you know, to balance all that ice cream and french fries that we eat, haha.
Cranberry bagels from Noah's Bagels...juicy oranges from my mom...super sweet strawberries from Costco (genetically altered of course)...grape jello (Jer is resident jello maker...he uses Knox to make it firmer)...and chestnut bread from the Cake House.
What random things do you guys eat for breakfast?

My Very First Sewing Project
I decided that it was time I tried a real project instead of just running some fabric back and forth at random, haha. So I googled "easy coin purse" and splityarn's awesome tutorial came up.
As a novice, this was a very simple pattern for me- easy to follow and nothing fancy. As you can tell from the collage I pretty much followed her instructions to the T. But instead of a snap enclosure I did a button one (since my Kenmore has that nifty option). Word to the wise: read the manual carefully! Careless me used the buttonHOLER to try to sew the button...but duh of course I ended up cracking and breaking the button! Jer told me to read the guide more carefully so then I finally figure out how to make buttonholes. I was too tired to figure out how to use the button option so I did it by hand. Next time I would probably use more durable material too. This material was a bit thin but I love the pattern/contrast!
I think I need to do some more easy projects before I move to the harder patterns in my queue. Any suggestions, people?

Kata Reflex E Camera Strap
Our Nikon came with a camera strap that said: "Hey I'm a D300, steal me!!!!" Okay, not quite, but close enough. Jerry wanted something less obtrusive and also more comfortable. Because our lens is quite heavy, carrying around the D300 puts quite a strain on one's shoulders over time (esp if you wear sleeveless tops and the straps dig into your skin!). He hunted around until we found the Kata Reflex E camera strap: one of the comfiest camera straps that we've ever used! It feels very soft, but yet it's quite durable. We tried going to a bunch of different stores: "Ritz Rentals", Samy's Camera, and Bel-air Camera, but they don't stock Kata camera straps. You can get it here. Next photography post will be about this HK website that sells stuff for ridiculously cheap...shipping costs more than some of the items!
*edit* No pictures of our camera/strap b/c we don't have an extra camera anymore. I guess we could do the picture in the mirror thing.

When Girlfriends > Boyfriends
One thing about having a sig other is that you don't see your gfs as often as you used to. Coupled with the fact that most of my other gfs have sig others and we are all very busy with work and school (and some of them are on East Coast), there are some stretches where I don't get to see my girlfriends for months at a time. Though nothing beats a face to face convo, the nice thing about phone/IM chat is that we can still keep in touch regardless of the distance. And I'm so appreciative of being able to still hang out/chat/call them because there are just some things that I can do with my girlfriends but not with the boyfriend:
1. Discussions about pads versus tampons versus cloth pads
2. Look up pics of Daniel Henney
3. Projections of proposals
4. Watch super duper cheesy chick flicks- he doesn't make me watch Die Hard 4, I don't make him watch Enchanted
5. Bach party and bridal shower!
6. Pedicures!
Surprisingly, there are some things I can do with the boyfriend that some girls can't do with their boyfriends:
1. Go shopping (homeboy's got a bit of fashion police in him)
2. Gossip (we love to dish the smack)
3. Watch sports (I think it's lame when girls pretend to be into sports just for their bf)
4. Share clothes (well okay this only goes one way, he can't obviously fit into any of my clothes)

Soft Pretzels
I was super craving soft pretzels so we finally attempted to make it. We used this recipe from Food Network. We made some slight modifications, but overall pretty much followed the same steps. Except before poaching we didn't really let it sit for 15 min...b/c I was impatient, haha.
1. Yeast is cool!
2. Trying to mix flour into the dough intermittently with the dough hook resulted in the dough trying to escape over the edge of the bowl (like a dough ghost trying to escape the bowl!). Hmm, any tips on how to keep this from happening?
3. Rolling is fun! Except...we've eaten sooo many pretzels in our life...but had no idea how they twist, haha. Enter "google image".
4. I dunno what the purpose of poaching is? With baking soda?
5. Don't use wax paper!! Even if you butter it! The pretzels stuck to the paper and we couldn't eat the yummy crust which is often the best part, boo. In some cases we just ate the paper b/c picking them out took too long.
6. Don't drizzle honey before you bake...it doesn't really absorb the honey and instead it leaves a burnt bottom where the honey hits the pan. Maybe next time I incorporate honey into some of the batch.
7. Rub unmelted butter onto pretzels as soon as they cool a bit out of the oven. Tasty!
8. Don't over salt...I couldn't really see where I was salting so I was a bit liberal with the first batch. I also think sea salt is better...the crystals are bigger. Kosher salt is a bit on the small side and it doesn't flake off the pretzel as easily. Unfortunately we bought a ginormous box of kosher salt so no switching over to sea salt for a while, haha.
9. Don't attempt this recipe during dinner time. The pretzels become your dinner. 6 pretzels for dinner = not a good idea.
10. They only taste better fresh. They were just okay the next day. Next time I will halve the recipe...We tend to immediately overeat everything we make...so if we make less...we won't have that problem! (I know there is a thing called self control, but we don't have it apparently.)
11. They tasted good! Just like Costco. =)
12. It's fun trying something new.

Sewing Machine
Can I just say, my new sewing machine is DOPE?
Btw, it is so awesome to have a mechanical engineer around. It took a while, but we finally figured out how to thread the machine! Yay for new toys!

Projects to come...way later. I need to learn how to thread the bobbin on my own first, haha. You know how I like collecting things? Now I want thread in all PRETTY DIFFERENT COLORS WEEEEEEE.

Goodbye XTi, Hello D300!
We took the D300 out to play!
Well, I had the D300 for Susan's weekend, but it was a "ritz-rentals" and it was only f3.5-5.6. I forgot what the mm was.

Let me tell this story!
So I was doing some last minute packing before heading out to the airport. We decide to grab a quick bite to eat since we didn't think the delivery guy would come before noon. But then Jer checked the front door and yikes! there was a note. So he ran all over to chase the truck down. And yay, our D300 body came in. We even had time to go to Frys and Ritz Camera for a lens (btw Frys doesn't have Nikkor lens, boo). So yeah.
We also had the D300 for disneyland, but we borrowed a zoom lens from Jer's BIL...so our shots were limited. Really limited.
But FINALLY, our 17-55mm f2.8 came in so I consider that as the real camera. =)
I made crepes b/c I was super craving them. Had savory- eggs with sundried tomato bruschetta, and also sweet- plain 'ol strawberry jam.
Then we went to the Festival of Books and took pics of Maria Shriver, and listened to Danica McKellar talk. It was such a hot and muggy day! Again the camelbak saved us.
Okay, it's gonna be another busy month! Lots of wedding prep and then Susan and Alfred gets hitched finally!, I finally get a new cell phone! (new every 2), Revlon Run Walk (please donate!), Fire Station Open House day, Mother's Day, a couple of conferences/health fairs, the PHSA banquet, and then FINALLY, my first FREE weekend, Memorial Weekend. For once, I have nothing planned. Indiana Jones 4 is coming out that wknd though...can you guys believe that Jer and I still haven't seen a movie theater movie together? Nothing worth paying 8 or 10 bucks has come out since we started dating, so maybe this will be our first movie together, haha. I remember all the other boys I dated, we'd ALWAYS watch movies b/c there seemed to be nothing else to do. But with us, it seems like we have so many other better things to do. I do want to watch Forgetting Sarah Marshall though! Maybe wait for DVD...

Big Wok and Dland
Okay, so after Jer picked me up from the airport, we headed to dinner at Big Wok.
The food is nothing to write home about, but really what I wanted to talk about is the lady in white. While we were in line waiting to have our food cooked, we noticed that she had 4 heaping bowls. We were like...how can you eat that much?? Just get in line twice! The food is gonna get cold. Anyways during dinner we kept looking at her to see how much she'd eaten, but really she had barely dented her food. So then, she gets the bill...and asks for a box! What?? Who asks for a box at a buffet place? Hello! What a dumbass, haha. So since the customer is always right, (no matter how ridiculous the request it), they boxed it for her, but after letting her know that wasn't their policy. She faked the "Oh I didn't know!" Whatever. Anyhoo, I hope they spit in her food.
Okay, the next morning we went to Disneyland.

We fast passed everything so we ended up going on 14 rides...a handful of them 2 or 3 times, haha. Our favorites were Buzz Lightyear and Space Mtn!

Okay, the next morning we went to Disneyland.

We fast passed everything so we ended up going on 14 rides...a handful of them 2 or 3 times, haha. Our favorites were Buzz Lightyear and Space Mtn!

Susan's Bach Party and Bridal Shower
Susan is getting hitched this wknd so us bridemaids planned a fun wknd for her.
Night started off at South Food and Wine Bar. Yummy food! Get the crab omelette! Tasty! The appetizer plate is also delicious. BM Ngoc picked it b/c they are going to the land down under for their h-moon.
Then we headed to the Supper Club. Lots of interesting looking people! We had a tranny stripper named Diva Dan. There's youtube videos on this dude! We also saw lots of man-thongs, and the bendiest man in San Francisco.
Then we tried to going to Bubble Lounge but there was no parking and we were all pretty tired so we called it a night. Fun times!
Then, the next day we had the bridal shower. It was hosted at BM Allison's apartment in Berkeley, which has a sick view from the balcony!
We had lots of delicious food...breads and cakes and cupcakes and crepes...yum!
I planned all the games and the decorations. We played wedding taboo (which I made from scratch), "How well do you know the bride?", and How well does Susan know Alfred?" We also did a mimosa toast, mmm! Our BM gift to her was a tastebook. What a fun concept!
Susan, you're less than 2 days away! I am so excited for you! =)
